Happy, happy Holidays to our WT Cafe family! As the Holiday Season approaches, irresistible snacks and calorie-laden goodies taunt us at every turn. We believe that everything is best in moderation, and here are some healthy holiday tips to keep you and your family on their toes!
Start with a healthy breakfast
Fueling our bodies properly each morning with a balanced, nutritious breakfast sets us off on the right foot of making healthier choices throughout the day. Make a big batch of smoothies or protein-packed oatmeal and start your family’s day right!
Studies show families that eat together experience many benefits, including good health, high self esteem, and higher test scores. Make time for each other this holiday season.
When life gets busy we may forget to hydrate properly, which can take its toll on our health. Be prepared with water on the go to keep your family well and hydrated.
Find time to engage in some type of family physical activity or exercise. The recommendation is to be active most days of the week. The American Heart Association recommends 150 minutes per week or more for heart health. Be sure to make time for all family members to get up and get active with a bike ride, a friendly football game, or a walk around the block.
When running errands and shopping this season, keep healthy snack options readily available. Before going out, eat a healthy snack to curb your family’s appetite. Bring a healthy dish to your holiday gathering to ensure there’s something on the menu that you can feel good indulging in.
Holidays are a special time for making family memories, so make sure yours reflect your family’s core values and your parenting principles. This season only comes once a year, but the feel good memories and the habits they reinforce can last a lifetime.
From our kitchen to yours, we wish you a joyous holiday season.
